FAQ
ManageYourNews offers you the ability to post articles and documents online so that one or more of the major search engines will display them when a name or business is searched. People post articles and documents on our website to create a positive online image of themselves. When a search engine searches your name you generally have no control over what shows up. Using our website, you can post a positive article or document about yourself (or others) so that it will be picked up by one or more major search engines. In todays world, employers, clients and friends are all searching your name on a regular basis. It is important that you post some positive information about yourself so that you create a positive online image. Your online reputation is as important as your offline reputation. If nothing currently shows up when your name is searched, it gives the impression that you are not important or that you have not accomplished anything in your life. Our website offers people and businesses the opportunity to market themselves online to create a positive online image. Some people use ManageYourNews to post "negative" articles or documents about others. So, for example, if there is a newspaper article about a doctor who loses his medical license, someone may want to post such article online to notify others of such event. As long as such article is authentic, we will generally post such articles and documents on our website. We have made the process of posting an article on our website simple. You can post an article or document on our website in one of the following three ways: Articles and documents will be posted on our website within 5 business days of its receipt by us. In our experience, an article or document will often be picked up by a major search engine a week or two after it is posted on our website. Other times, it may take up to 45 days for such article or document to be picked up by a major search engine. You can post virtually any type of article or document on our website - a newspaper article (we don't care whether it is a national newspaper or a college or high school newspaper), a magazine article, a trade periodical, a company newsletter, a legal document, or even a press release from a charitable organization. We are flexible about what types of articles and documents get posted on our site. All we demand is that such articles or documents be authentic. So if an article was published in your local newspaper about you or your business (or someone else), then post it online for the world to see. If a charitable organization issues a press release regarding its new officers or if a local newspaper reports that you graduated first in your class, then post it online for the world to see. Admittedly, we are continuously surprised as to the types of articles and documents that are posted on our website. For example, we have found that many judgment creditors have been using our website to help collect or enforce their judgments. It appears that once judgment debtors discover that the online world knows about their judgments, many of these judgment debtors quickly pay them off! Yes. There is a one-time fee of $20 for each article or document that you post on our website. Tax is included. You can pay online using American Express, Master Card, or Visa. If you send the article or document to us by regular mail, you can pay by personal check, money order, or cash. No. We do not disclose who submitted the article or document. Yes, but only if you submit the article or document by regular mail. If you would prefer to post an article or document anonymously, then you should send the article or document (and the Article/Document Profile) to us by regular mail and accompany it with a money order or cash. The answer depends on the volume of articles and documents we then have on our website. However, at a minimum, an article or document will stay on our website for at least two years So long as the article or document submitted is authentic, we will most likely post it on our website. We reserve the right to refuse to post a particular article or document (or to take down a particular article or document from our website) if we believe it is a fraudulent article or for any other reason. Yes. You can call or write us about any articles or documents that you believe to be fraudulent that have been posted on our website. We are committed to only posting authentic articles and documents online. If we discover that an article or document is fraudulent, we will take it off our website Our entire business is based on the premise that any article or document that is posted on our website will be picked up by one or more major search engines. To date, all of the articles and documents that have been posted on our website have been picked up by one or more of the major search engines. Sometimes it may take up to 45 days for a search engine to pick up an article or document. And it is theoretically possible that your article or document will not be picked up by any major search engine. If your article is not picked up by a major search engine within that time, feel free to contact us so that we can fix this. Also take note, if your article or document is currently on another website there is a chance that it will not be picked up. If your name is very common (i.e., Jim Smith, Bill Carter, etc.), the major search engines should still pick up the article or document you post on our website, but it may end up pretty far down in the search results. In such case, there are some ways to improve the search results. When you plug in the "Key Terms" on the Article/Document Profile, you should not just insert "Jim Smith" as a Key Term. If, for example, Jim Smith is a doctor, you should also insert "Dr. Jim Smith" as a Key Term and now if someone searches Dr. Jim Smith, there is a greater likelihood that your article or document will show up in first few pages of a major engine search. There are no copyright infringement issues if you are uploading a government or legal document on our website. However, if you are uploading a newspaper or magazine article, the issue becomes more complicated. Unfortunately, the law on this point is not clear. In general, copyright law protects an authors creative works. If you were to upload an authors work relating to a fictional story, you would most probably be infringing on the authors copyright because fictional stories are given broader copyright protection than factual stories. Conversely, if an authors article deals with a factual story (like those which we contemplate will be posted on our website), then the current law gives you broader protection against a copyright infringement claim. However, since the law is unsettled, we believe in the old adage - "better safe than sorry". Accordingly, if you want to upload a newspaper or magazine article which exceeds 100 words, then you need to obtain consent (the "Consent") from the newspaper or magazine that published the article. We have found that most newspapers and magazines will freely give their consent to the posting of an article on the internet (especially if the article is about yourself) without the payment of a fee. Please retain the Consent for your records. We do not, however, require the Consent for articles that contain less than 100 words - this is because we believe a short factual article about yourself containing a few sentences (for example, an article simply announcing that you won an award or graduated first in your class) would most likely not infringe on anyones copyright. You should note, however, that if we are notified by a publisher that a posted article infringes on someones copyright, then we will notify you of such alleged violation and we will give you the opportunity to deliver the Consent to us. If we do not receive the Consent from you within a ten day period, the article will be permanently removed from our website or, at our option, we may decide to leave only a brief excerpt of the article on our website. Files with the following extensions can be uploaded: For example you can not upload a word document. To upload the content of a word document, copy and paste the desired content into a text file. Additionally, the maximum file size can not exceed ten megabytes. |
